Hey all,
I was wondering if it were possible to transfer the components of my store bought PC to a new case? I have a Dell Inspiron 3000 series desktop (the same case as the more widely known Dell 660).
The case has very poor airflow with only one exhaust fan in the rear and no intake fan. Dell for some reason thought it was a good idea to put the PCI 16 slot at the very bottom of the case so my new gpu has pretty much no room to breath at all.
I have an MSI Geforce GTX 760 OC and it runs at a steady 80 - 85C under heavy load even with the fan set to 100%. I know that 85C isn't THAT bad but I don't want it running that high all the time. It's positioned so that the fans blow down towards the bottom of the case which is only about an inch or 2 away. I've looked at maybe getting a PCI slot cooler but I dont think it would do any good because the slot cooler would be on the other side of the GPU since the GPU faces down. I've taken the rest of the PCI slot covers off of the back to try and get more airflow but it doesn't work. I also have a new exhaust fan for the back on order but I dont know if it will do much good without any sort of intake from the front.
I believe my options would be to get some power tools and modify the side of the case to put a fan in there for better airflow or transfer to a new case. I read that Dell uses custom motherboards that don't really fit properly in other cases, is that true? Or that it would be a pain trying to transfer everything over to a new case.
Would I be able to keep the rest of my components and just get a new motherboard and case?
Specs are
i5 4440 3.1ghz
Kingston 8gb ddr 1600
MSI Geforce GTX 760 OC 2gb ITX
Seasonic 550W 80+ PSU
Everything is stock from Dell except for the GPU and PSU.
Thanks
