Hard Drive Just For OS

I currently have a 2TB hard drive in my computer now. I am looking to get another one around 150 to 300 GB just to run windows and use the 2TB for storage only. My thought is, if I get something goes wrong with my OS, then I can just wipe the OS hard drive and not have to lose any of my information.

Does this sound logical? Or are there better ways to go about achieving this?

I have a lot of pictures of my family that I want to keep forever and just want to make sure I don't lose them seeing as we are now in the digital world of photography.

Any suggestions on a decent inexpensive hard drive that would work for me?

Yes. Most people do that, espeically now they get an SSD hard drive just for the OS as it's very fast, and then a big drive for storage.

If you want to backup those family photos though, either upload them someone to store them or buy a backup drive. Just because they are on the 2TB and you had a boot drive for the OS, doesn't mean the 2TB won't die and you'd loose all your photos.
