Desktop Display Issues

Recently my PC has been losing it's display and becoming unresponsive at seemingly random times (although it happens more often when I am running a game). Basically what happens is I will be playing a game or sometimes just browsing around and my monitor will suddenly go black and then tell me that no display is connected. Resetting the monitor and re-plugging the HDMI cable from the monitor to the graphics card has no effect. The only way to get a display back is to hard reset. The only other symptom that I've noticed that could be related is that when I first log in to the computer the display will flicker for a second or two which it never does otherwise. I've very recently ensured that my graphics driver was up to date. System specs to follow:

Mother Board: ASUSTek P8Z77-V

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K

RAM: Mushkin 8GB DDR3 2133Hz

Graphics: Radeon HD 6970 2GB VRAM GDDR5

Storage: Western Digital 2TB HDD + Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 128GB SSD

*Liquid Cooled GPU and CPU*

Edit:
Realized I was running the windows "Dream Scene" process that allows you to run looped GIFs as wallpapers. Just disabled it. Will see if this solves the issue.

Solution
Most likely it is time to buy new video card.

Or maybe you have too much OC?

First thing to do is test memory.

Or try this.

It's a modular EVGA 1000W that I just got for christmas so unless its defective I doubt that's the issue. Anything I could do to test that?
