I am a photographer and assistant getting into higher volume commercial work. I currently use a semi powerful laptop for workflow, but it is beginning to show its age especially with newer versions of the editing/capture software I am using. Essentially I need a rig that would allow me to process ~1k images in one program while editing 20+ images in another all at the same time, with little to no lag at all. I also want this rig to be highly portable so I can take it on location for some documentation jobs I have so I can provide on-site edits and delivery to clients. Most of these locations would be in buildings with access to a standard outlet so no power issues should exist. (I'm looking into another laptop for situations where power would be scarce). I might also install MAC OS alongside Windows, but haven't decided on that yet.

Now to the non professional reason I want this rig.......I am also into games. I usually bounce between Total War games, The Elder Scrolls, GTA, and The Sims 3. I'm looking to get The Sims 4 in December, GTA 5 whenever it finally graces Windows, and playing the games I play now on the highest settings. I plan to keep all of my editing software on an SSD while my non professional programs will be on a traditional harddrive.

Anyway I've been building rigs virtually for awhile and wanted to have the opinion of others on the components I've selected. I plan to assemble the components myself unless I run across a deal for a pre-assembled one. Remember I want to keep this thing portable as much as possible.

Tower- This is open as I have not found one I really feel strongly about. Though I do need something portable. The only issue I have is that many of the more portable towers lack the necessary USB ports and space requirements I need for card readers, CD burners, HD space etc. So perhaps a midtower would be better though a smaller midtower.

Cooling System- Any suggestions would be fantastic. Looking for a processor fan/overall cooling system.

Anyway this is what I'm thinking in terms of component power. I haven't researched to see if these components work together or anything I haven't really gotten that far yet. This rig at the prices I found is around $1500(without OS) and I would like to bring that down to $1000 if possible. If a rig built more toward image processing would be substantially less than the above then I would go that route and deal with performance issues in games as I always have.

I'm looking to buy this by June after I've saved enough/after tax season. I'm looking to buy Windows 7 OS as I have not heard good things for Windows 8 in general and especially in regards to the editing software I will be using.

Any help would be appreciated!

Solution
A midtower case really isn't that portable. I would consider getting an m-ATX case like Outlander said above, or even an ITX case.

I put together this build which is about the same price, but capable of the same things and more portable. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2Y8Zr I just downsized the motherboard and case, which is only 15"x9"x14".
