Scenario:
I had an XP machine and used a retail Vista Upgrade package key to upgrade to Vista.
That machine then died and is no longer online.
Can I reuse that upgrade key to upgrade another XP machine to Vista?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers

No. The upgrade key was permanently locked to the first machine you upgraded. Microsoft is under no obligation to allow you to activate it on another PC.

The original XP license was tied to that original hardware. The Vista license is tied to that original XP. The second XP license is completely different.

Thanks..

So with my original XP being retail.. I can put that on the second machine.. and then re-upgrade the
XP to Vista again? That would work?

If <both> packages are retail then you should be fine. If either is OEM then no.
