Hello,

I recently built a new PC from scratch using the following components:

CPU: AMD 9370 4.4ghz (4.8ghz Turbo) FX
Motherboard: Sabertooth 990FX r2.0
GPU: EVGA Geforce 660 GTX Ti
Ram: G-Skill Ares 8GB DDR3 1866mhz (4GB x 2)
PSU: Corsair CX 600 (600watt)
Hardrive: Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB
CPU Watercooler: Corsair H80i

My issue at present is continual PC Freezes / lockups after 2-4 minutes of use.

Exceptions being;

When in the UEFI BIOS, system runs without problems.

When running in safe mode, systems runs without problems.

My issue occurred as soon as I initially tried to install Windows 8 (64bit). During the install process or even before selecting which hard drive to install to, the PC would completely lockup, no interaction what so ever, thereby forcing a hard re-boot. I had this same issues with Windows 7 (64bit). I did however eventually manage - after over 30 attempts, to install windows.

*During the period of trying to install Windows I also updated the motherboard BIOS using their latest .cud file.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is what I changed to successfully boot:

What actually enabled me to initially boot and install windows and access the desktop was: going into the BIOS and changing the default profile preset from 'Normal' to 'Optimal'. No other changes where made.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However problems soon arose when I accessed the Windows 7 desktop.

After managing to go an hour on the desktop, during which I installed Nvidia VGA drivers and AMD Chipset drivers, I restarted the PC as prompted by the installers. Once rebooted, I managed 4 minutes on the desktop before the system froze again. I hard re-booted, and this occurred yet again.

I then re-booted, changed the BIOS profile from 'Optimal' to 'Energy Saver' and set the Corsair watercooler fan to speed 2/3 (Normal) instead of 1/3 (quiet) and removed he side panels of the case. When I accessed the windows desktop I was able to operate without a lockup.

However, after rebooting the locks ups returned. No BIOS or other changes were made.

Thus I'm now writing this thread.

---------------IMPORTANT INFORMATION ----------:

I have tried disabling USB3.0, USB legacy support, changing Sata from ACTI to IDE and vice versa, down-clocking Ram and CPU.

I have tried the DDR3 memory in different slots on the board, slots 1&3, and slots 2&4. I have tried one stick of memory in each slot, and two sticks.

I have also run memtest86 and memtest86+ on both sticks, individually and separately, all passed.

I have also run a 3Dmark bench test during the period of Windows functioning, which ended with no errors.

I have also watched 1080p videos, albeit with slight lag during the period of full operation.

Before the computer freezes, I have noticed occasionally the mouse pointer lagging / slowing down.

I have also tried the VGA card in PCI-E slots 1 to 3. No change.

VGA card connected to Samsung 1080P 32" monitor via HDMI cable.

Temperatures of components whilst running in BIOS:

CPU: 38 Degrees.
Motherboard: 31 Degrees.

To touch, GPU and Ram are also cold / mild in temperature.

Corsair Watercooler is fit tightly onto the CPU, thermal paste already applied.

Ram is clean, slots are clean and sticks fully depressed in their positions.

NO OTHER DEVICES OTHER THAN THE FOLLOWING ARE CONNECTED:

Mouse (USB)
Keyboard (USB)
SSD
GPU
CPU
Ram
Motherboard=

----------- What, in my opinion, I think is wrong:

CPU fitted too tightly to watercooler heatsink
CPU thermal paste not thick enough
