Just wanted to clear a doubt.

Hi guys,
I have been planning to install a new PSU and GPU on my somewhat ancient pc.

The specs are as follows,

Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2 GHZ
Intel DG41RQ Mobo
2x1gb DDR2 Ram
Zotac Geforce GT 440
Stock Lenovo 300W PSU

been running this since 2008 with minor upgrades to the ram and gpu which i did on my own.

and these are the things i'm planning to buy,

Corsair VS550 550W PSU
Zotac Geforce 750 Ti 2GB GDDR5

As much as i have read these are the two investments i would need to do (i'd ramp up the whole machine but i am short on cash right now) and they should work perfectly.my reason for upgrading my pc is to play games smoothly on 720p.So my main doubt is that,

Would my current mobo support the new psu and gpu? i'm guessing the gpu will fit cause pcie 3.0 is universal (right?) and my mobo only supports DDR2 RAM but a gpu can be stretched upto GDDR5 with 6-Pin PCIE connector.just hesitant before i make my purchase.

Thanks! :)

My apologies if i may have posted in the wrong section.i couldn't seem to find a more appropriate one.

Solution
I can't find what power input connection that motherboard needs but from what I have read, that will work fine together but as you said, As soon as you get the extra $$$ upgrade the rest of the system.

Yes i do plan to upgrade when i have the extra cash.the power input connection it might need is a 24 pin,but the PSU i'm buying has a molex 24 pin connector.thanks for your answer!

Yeah i thought it might bottleneck the gpu,i would be upgrading to a AMD FX-4300 along with a couple of 4 gig GDDR3 RAMs and any mobo which would support either of them when i have the cash.thanks!

I concur :) makes to sense to get the parts and build it bit by bit.a slight bottleneck won't matter to me right, atleast i'l be able to run any demanding 2013-2014 game above 25 fps! gonna be a huge upgrade for me.the gt 440 is bareable with something like dark souls but it just loses over to games like crysis 2,black flag etc etc.

pci express is pci express, if you have the slot, its backwards compatible, so yes, the new card will work.
Your mobo supports DDR2 memory, its the slot it fits in has a certain number of pins. GDDR5 is GraphicsDDR5, its what you find on a gpu, totally different from what you use in the system. GDDR is built in to the video card, its not replaceable

As far as upgrades go, you have to say whether you plan to overclock a little bit and boost the performance. Also take this into consideration, anything to do with a mobo is mobo specific. For an FX chip you'll need an AM3+ mobo. Also to be best, 8GB DDR3 1866 although 1600 is almost as good for AMD but a lil cheaper. If you do plan on overclocking, I would upgrade the few dollars to an FX 6300, its a much friendlier chip for that, well loved here. Also, with overclocking, you will want to use an aftermarket cpu cooler, the stock one simply is a fail. its a freight train on your desk. For the price (<$30) the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO is unbeatable, its the best, and a very cheap insurance policy for sound and heat issues. I'd say get one even for not overclocking, they are that good and quiet.
For mobo's, I like the Asrock 970 extreme3 R2.0, or the upgraded version with newer chipset is the 990FX extreme3. Good boards, great prices.

Thanks alot! Really informative :) and yeah by universal i meant it's backward compatible.my apologies i forgot the correct term.as for the overclocking,i'l be honest i really have no plans to delve into overclocking.though i really appreciate your advice,i'm gonna screenshot your post and keep it for future references.
