Is it worth it to upgrade from the 3350p to the 4670k? I have a hyper 212+ and plan to do a small oc for now.

Specs:
3350p
7970 925MHz core and 1450MHz mem (I haven't tried to oc much bc cpu is a bottleneck is a lot of games that I play).
8gb 1600MHz
550w XFX

From most to least usage, my system goes as follows.
Internet, Games, Rendering, Software Development

Also, not sure if it matters, but I am a silence freak. If something isn't quiet enough, it will be within 2 weeks :D

Anyways, would this be a viable upgrade? If not, what should I do with a budget of $350?

DDR4 is likely to be very expensive for a while after release. Probably won't be a huge advancement over DDR3 for a while either. Honestly I'd take a Xeon 1230v2 if I were you, almost identical performance to an i7 3770 and it's quite a lot cheaper. The extra threads would be useful in games like...

I doubt that your i5 3350p is bottlenecking your 7970, but to answer your question, the 4670k is a good bit more powerful than the 3350p. You will likely see an increase by upgrading, but whether it's worth it or not cannot be said. If you have the money and want to upgrade, then I'm sure you'd be happy with the 4670k. $350 would get you the 4670k plus a good Z87 motherboard.

The 3350p is still a very strong cpu though.

Keep your 3350p and wait for skylake + ddr4 will be a better choice. The fact is that if u buy a 4670K and OC it , u will have 4-5 extra FPS in games but it's very small and waste of money. For rendering I prefer an e3 1230v2 for your 1155 board or a FX8350:D

Motherboard is an MSI B75MA-E33

At this point, I'll probably hold off until skywell and ddr4 like lqtung said. It's just, when I play games like far cry 3, bf3 (used to be 4 also, until mantle update), Crysis Warhead, and other games of the sort, my cpu sits at around 90% while my gpu is around 50% and the fps is below 60.

Yes, I was looking for a new psu. My cables are extremely stiff, which makes cable management a nightmare. Do you have any recommendations for a semi/full modular psu?

I have to admit. This cpu is doing wonders for the price for what I wanted it for. CPU usage went from ~90% to ~40-50% in BF4. Rendering is SO much faster, and it's running physx rather well. (3dmark physx on 3350p with 7970 would get 17 fps, this gets double that). I'm so happy with it!

I don't suppose there are any dual cpu 1155 boards?? :D

Also, I went against a new psu and just got the cpu. Now I have a small problem if anyone thinks they can help.
I'm trying to get the cpu to run at 3.7GHz all the time. I set it to that in the bios and it's showing up as that in system properties, but any aftermarket software say's it's at 3.5GHz. How can I fix that?

I think that's how most intel CPUs seem to work. As more cores/threads are running at full load it downclocks them.

The only way I know how to get them to run at that all of the time is through either manually setting the CPU multipliers in the BIOS to the max possible. Also enable Multi-Core Enhancement (MCE) which should allow it to run at 3.7GHz all of the time.

Glad you're happy with it.
