Hello everyone,
My uncle is coming home(Europe) from Canada this July and he will hopefully buy me a video card from there, because it's cheaper. First of all, I choose the EVGA GTX 770 4GB SC (or maybe the Classified one) for the price around 400-420$. But then after I watched many clips, read many topics and the fact that I'll probably not upgrade my PC for the next couple of years, I decided that I'd be able to spend a few more dollars for a 780. The price range that I see is from 500$ to around 550$. I currently have an EVGA GTX 570 HD and I'm quite happy with it, so I'll probably again choose EVGA, but I'm also looking at the Gigabyte Windforce and the Asus Direct CUII. My question is, should I save some money and buy the 770, longer futureproof myself with the 780 or should I wait for Maxwell(if it's going to be released soon)? I assume that the prices of the cards may drop in a couple of months and that's why I'll tell him what to buy in around May/June. My current rig is:

ASRock P67 Pro3
Intel i5-2500k
8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz
EVGA GTX 570 HD
Seasonic X-660W Gold
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
Cooler Master HAF 932
Philips 222E

I'll probably change my motherboard to a Z77 Extreme 4 a couple of months after I get my video card. Thank you for reading and thank you in advance for the help.

Have a nice day :)

You should go with the 780 if there isnt much of a price difference between the 2 cards. I mean there might be a 200 difference in money but it will definitely be worth it. The 780 has around a 30% better performance than the gtx 770. I previously had a r9 280x which was pretty much the gtx 770 of amd. I just upgraded to a gtx 780 and Im loving the performance of the card. I have an i5-3570k and get around 70+ fps on average when playing bf4. It never ever dropped below 60 fps for me. I played at ultra, 2xmsaa and at 1080p. So i would suggest the 780 because in the future if the newer games comes out and a single 780 won't be able to handle it im sure you'll have enough money to get another 780 and 2-way sli them. A 2-way sli 770 is...

A 2-way sli 770 is cheaper but then it just doesn't give enough performance. Although im pretty sure by the time you'll need a second 780 you will probably have enough money for it. Hope this helps :)

P.S. you probably will want to switch your motherboard if you're planning on to get the 780

It really depends on what games you are playing. If you are playing Skryim Maxed out 16x Anti Aliasing with ENB Mod 6K Textures, then you will need a 780 if you want something close to 60FPS. If you're playing 4K, a 780 would be best. If you are playing games like BF4 Ultra, then a 770 would suffice.

I mainly play BF4, LoL, Cs:GO. I may also play Watch Dogs, Thief etc... I read a couple of times that the price on the 780 may drop to 430-450$ in a few months, so if this happens, that would be my card. Also, what manufacturer do you guys recommend?

EVGA, MSI, ASUS are probably the better manufactures. I have the EVGA with the acx cooler it is a little bit louder than other cards but the coolings great. If you don't like a lot of noise i would suggest the MSI one. And the last one Asus it is quiet but the card is also huge. Its bigger than both the EVGA and MSI cards. Also the games you play such as Bf4 and watchdogs 780 is perfect for those games on 1080p. The 780 is made for 1080p and it rarely drops below 60 fps in bf4 unlikes the 770 which sometimes might drop to 45 or 50. As long as you put like 2xmsaa in bf4 you should be fine with the 780.

Ok, thanks for your help :)
I decided that the card would probably be the EVGA GTX 780 Dual Classified. But then again, when I discuss the topic with some of my friend, they asked me why I just don't get the 780 Ti. I told them that for its current price, it's a bit over my budget and I think that the 780 will be overkill and there is no need for the Ti. As I mentioned earlier, the purchase will be made around late May/early June, which leads me to my question: Do you think that the price of the Ti would drop to, lets say, the current price of the 780 +/- 40-50$?

Again, thank you for the help :)

just a heads up the dual classified gtx 780 is huge in width. You gotta make sure to have enough space to fit it in your case. As for the pricing of the card. Nobody knows as of yet. People have been talking quite a but about the new nvidia maxwells cards and from what i know alot of people think its coming out either soom in a month of time or may/june this year. If the card does come out around may/june which is when you'll buy your cards, the 780ti will definitely drop a bit. But don't expect much of a drop tho. If the 780ti drops in price during may/june it will definitely be worth it since you're like 3 months closer than you are now to the next gen games.

Since ur buying a bit late, the 780 would be a better choice as the prices will drop. Its current price is $509. It will maybe lose 20-30 dollars soon. But I'd say save ur pennies and to for the 770, its cheaper and suits its price. It will last u time but not as much as 780 single gpu wise. You can always SLI it and get more than 50% more performance. SLI 780 only makes 7 fps difference on average. Gtx 770 gets a steady 59-64 fps on average in bf4. Watch dogs, the game I've been waiting a long time for, will perform better on 780 but won't have a huge fps difference from 770. It's going to be like the 600 series. The 780 will not make a huge diff from 770. I support the 770.

I did a lot of thinking and i decided to upgrade my cpu and mobo along with my gpu. When i sell my current mobo and cpu, the 4670k + maybe a msi g45/ASRock z87 extreme 4 board and it will cost me around 30$. As for the video, I choose the EVGA Classifieds, but yesterday I saw that EVGA is releasing a 6Gb 780 at the price of 560-580$, which i think would be a definite bargain. My budget is around 900-950$, and these are the things that I think are the best for this price range
