Hello All,

I'm new to the forum and looking for some advice. I currently have a medion laptop E6221 MD 97753 with an Intel i5 - 2410m cpu.

I'm looking at updating the cpu for a little more speed. I am looking at either the
Intel i5 2520M 3.2Ghz 3M PGA 988 G2 Mobile CPU Processor Q17N ES
or
Intel Core i7-3610QM Mobile SR0MN 2.3GHz 6144KB Socket G2 CPU.

I'm just worried about compatibility, I know the socket is OK but the i7 is 45w but will the bios and chipset take them. My chipset is HM65.

I would look at others if you guys can recommend a cpu for my machine.

Thank you for taking a look.. Martin

I have done a bit of reading and found an I7 2620m, maybe this is a good choice too.

Personally I wouldn't bother. I have this machine and even after good thermal paste, fan & vent cleaning and all that, this system can only just handle the heat when all (2x2) cores are maxed out. But hey maybe it'll work :) Personal mods I made are adding a caddy with low capacity ssd instead of the rather bad optical drive and replacing the keyboard with a much (much much) better quality one i found on ebay (this was kinda forced on me ;)
