I had my amd phenom 9550 x4 on a biostar mobo a780l that often idled at 19-23c and prime 95 wouldnt get it over 46c.
I didn't see a problem with obviously false low temps but to be on safe side i set coretemps over heat protection to 48c incase that in reality it happened to be way to hot.

i have just recently replaced that mobo with a asrock a785gm-el for the pcie-1 slot and in stead of runneing "cool" it is running very hot! iddling 58-64c and hits 81c in 2mins with prime95.

wd caviar black 1tb hdd
wd green 2 tb hdd
wd velociraptor 74gb (os)
win7 home premium 64
ocz fatality ddr2 8xx 4gb(2x2)
corsair 750 powersupply
gtx 460-se
avermedia video capture device

WD green, capture card and asrock mobo all installed at same time

i have reseatted this heat sink many times and have never had heat issue before this mobo

i verified temps accrossed core temp, hwmonitor, speed fan all giving exact same temp readings at same time but bios is saying 38c when monitoring in bios menus

thanks much in advance and bios is the latest version though cpu is supported with original bios contemplating rolling back bios to see if thats an issue

Yes I used arctic silver 5 each time I also mad sure hs fans where spinning. It is same heat sink as I was using on the old mono. I also put my finger on the base of heat sink while it was running to see if it felt hot to the touch but it did not feel hot at all

It really seems like a false temp but I'm told coretemp is accurate with the CPUs internal temp sensor if that's the case I'm curious how the same cpu is giving such extreme variation. I hate to swap boards out again to see if same low temps come back with old board! If it does low temps again would it be reasonable to say that the idle temps and load temps would point for point equivalent 20c idle on old board same temp as 60c on new board and load temps of 45 old board same as 85 on new one?

When running prime temps started to slow around 78 I'm guessing it would have stabilized around 86-89 which would be similar 25-30 degree range

same as i have alway have with old board. i put a 'grain of rice" in center of cpu spreader then put heat sink on latched it and firm pressed it down and then locked down latch
