Internet Speed + Motherboard

I recently bought a ASRock H87 PRO4 Motherboard, however I'm having trouble with the internet speed which I receive.

It does not initially include a wi-fi card and I'm using a TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 N900 Wireless Dual Band PCI Express Adapter to try and maximise my connection, but the problem is that I'm receiving 2-3 Mb/s when I normally receive 25-30.

My laptop is getting 25 Mb/s at the same time as this desktop is getting 1-2. This is incredibly frustrating and I'm wondering whether I should sell my motherboard and get a motherboard with a built-in wi-fi card. Even when I used an Ethernet cable, I was still getting terrible speeds.

Is there any way that I can boost my speed?

Hi

Wireless speed depends on range and what is in the way

A big metal tower case can prevent the signal getting thru at full strength

Are the desktop & laptop in the same location when comparing connection speed to the wireless access point

When connecting to the router / switch via cable what connection speed is obtained 10, 100 or 1000 Mb/ sec ?
Possibly led available to show speed
