I went out of town for a week this past week and come back and applications on my computer keep crashing and telling me that Microsoft Windows is unresponsive and asking me if I want to stop it. My computer was off the time while I was gone. I have heard of a fix for the Microsoft Windows crashing and it was to stop the service of Desktop Window Manager and that does seem to have fixed it so far. The problem now is that apps are running slow and eventually becoming unresponsive. Safe Mode works fine. I have a Dell XPS8500 that I will have for almost 3 years this June. The only hardware change I have done was change the GPU this past Christmas. Sorry if this is written bad I am just wanting to fix this problem :(.

Edit 1: I am currently doing a scan for malware using Malwarebytes.

I have 374 GBs left on my main HDD and I have an external HDD that has 2 TB left. I have done both virus and malware scans and nothing found with the virus but 3 problems with the malware. The malware was removed using Malwarebytes and I did antivirus with Norton.

Also I would like to add that I did a clean startup and it fixed everything. I am going to continue to do that until I can find out what the problem is. I did one of those Microsoft Fix It test and it might help a little with performance but it didn't fix the problem.

what version of windows are you running? so,if it works in safemode,it sounds like there is something using a hell of a lot of resources in normal mode.open task manager and see what processes are running and what ones are using a lot of cpu resource.if you are running win7 have you tried your troubleshooters?

I have Windows 7 Home Premium and I think it does have to do with resources. I haven't done any troubleshooters but I have been trying things myself. I just went to open Steam and it completely destroyed the performance of my computer. It was trying to download an update for Loadout and I deleted the game and now I can open it up just find without any hits to performance. Just as I said earlier, I am still running off the clean startup that I did earlier and it is working perfectly.
