How to speed up my 9 year old Dell 6000D laptop.

I have been running Win 7 on my old Dell 6000D 1.6 GHz CPU with 2 GB ram for a few years everything works great but I am bored with how slow it is. I found a good price for an Intel Pentium M Dothan 780 2.267 GHz CPU which should give me 40% speed increase.
Mine is an Intel Pentium M Dothan 730, the one I plan to order is an Intel Pentium M Dothan 780. I compared the 2 of them using the Intel ARK and all the Specs are identical.
Is this a plug and play situation or do I have to change anything in the Registry or anywhere else?
Do I need to do anything other than grease it up and plug it in? I am always afraid of changing the Registry!

Solution
Giving windows 7 more than 2 gig of RAM will benefit it better than the CPU speed bump. With 2 GB of ram, everything is writing to the page file on the HD slowing down the whole system. A faster CPU won't fix that.

Thanks, but 2 Gig is the max I can put in it.
