Why are there only 2 GFX card makers?

This may be a very stupid and obvious question, but i was just wondering why Nvidia and AMD are the only companies who make graphics card. Please only the people who know a lot about this and not just people who dont know anything and just answer the obvious. Also, if its possible maybe someone could also tell me why AMD and Intel make the only CPU's.

I believe its the same reason for both, nobody has the capital or production to compete. If they were to start they have to beat/match the opposition, which is nearly impossible. There used to be other makers of graphics card, ATI, but AMD bought them out. Its just a matter of money vs profit really.

Same goes for CPUs, you have to make your own architecture to compete.
