Little background: The computer was given to my by my CFO as he upgraded to a newer machine. From what he told me it worked fine, and he played far more games than I do. He just told me he wanted to upgrade. After recieving the computer I did a reformat on it to clear his data. I used the alienware CD's and resource CD for most of the drivers. Device manager says I have all of them installed. I have tried playing Loadout and Rift. When I play for about 10 minutes the PC just shuts down without warning. Sometime the graphics in game look a little sketchy before this happens.

Specs:

Alienware Aurora ALX 2010 model I believe
2.67 GHz intel core i7 920
Board: Alienware 04vwF2 A01
12 GB RAM installed 2GB x 6
Velociraptor 10k Drive (OS)
WD 7500 drive
ATI RAdeon HD 5670

Any idea what this could be

Wow. Don't know why I didn't think to check that sooner. it looks like GPU 1 sits fine at 75 Celsius and doesn't really move from there. While GPU 2 goes to about 115 Celsius then shuts down. Any idea why this would be or what I could do to fix it.

Whenever you have 2 GPUs running together, one is always going to be hotter then the other one because heat from one will transfer to the other card. It could also mean that your GPU that runs hot is not cooling as goode as it is supposed to. Try to clean the blower and then if things continue. try taking out the card with the problem to see if it works fine with the other card and then switch them. That way you can see which card will work or not. Hope this helps.

I tried removing one of the cards (the one I assumed was getting the hottest). Since then the temps rise up to about 105-110 with only one GPU. However, I am able to play games without the computer powering off. it seems like while playing loadout the temps average around 106. This seems like a pretty good temporary fix, but I think it may be time for a new card.
