I have an amd fx 8120 which should be at stock 3.1Ghz
when i just ran the windows index rating test i seen that my processor is runnig at 3.89Ghz
i did go into the bios today and turned off amd cool and queit and changed bios screen time from 8 seconds to 2 seconds
i also changed from balanced mode to performance mode in the bios
see this article please (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/277985-29-asus-auto-tune-safe)
I HAVE NOT OVERCLOCKED , I HAVE NEVER MESSED WITH OC

my mobo is ASUS M5A97 R2.0

Its extemely stable as i felt no difference
shall i run prime95 to see if the cores fail ?

you just stopped my heart attack ,but at 3 percent usage does it really need to turbo ? also its saying in windows control panel under system that im running at 3.89 ghz , same in the bios , also i reverted back to normal mode in the bios and still no change , before in control panel it said 3.1gz

The 4ghz is the max, it will creep it's way towards that. Windows control panel is horrible at reporting speeds. No one really understands the full turbo core and the way it calculates when to go to what speed. Some people just disable it and then overclock to the turbo core speed so they get better usage out of it. You can disable turbo core in the BIOS if it bothers you but it does make things faster.

And if it overclocks itself to 4ghz or 3.89 or whatever for 3 seconds and gets everything done and then downclock to idle speed, or stays at 3.1 and takes 5 seconds to get everything done, the quick boost to get it get done quicker is probably less heat and stress on the CPU than staying at 3.1ghz for a longer period.
