One of the usb ports in the front doesn't work... sometimes...

I have a corsair 300r case and an asus z87 pro motherboard. The case has two usb 3.0 ports in the front and one of them works everytime for everything. The other works with a usb 3.0 flashdrive but nothing else. When I plug in the usb cable for my tablet or an external hd or even a usb 2.0 flashdrive, it recognizes something is plugged in, but doesn't show the device in My Computer.

I checked the cables (although I doubt that would be it since the usb 3.0 flashdrive works) The only thing I can think of is a firmware problem (although that would be weird too because the other usb port works fine). Any thoughts? Anybody else ever encounter something like this?

Solution
It sounds like the bad port is not getting sufficient voltage to power anything more demanding than a flash drive.

I have found that the blue USB3.0 motherboard sockets tend to fit a bit loosely.
Insure that the front cable is securely plugged in, and that the cables, which are a bit stiff, are not bushed to the side loosening up part of the connection.
You could try snugging up the connection with a thin piece of transparent tape added to the connector.

The other possibility is that you have a bad cable where ALL the power pins are not connected.
A Replacement from Corsair can be ordered.

Thanks I actually did notice the plug was a bit loose when I was checking the cables, but no change... I'll contact corsair and see what they can do. Thanks!
