Initially during each boot, the dvd drive is being shown in My Computer. The problem starts when i put inside a dvd, then the drive runs for a bit, then it stops and the dvd drive is missing from the My Computer. The drive doesn't even eject even after restart. This problem already happened once when i hard ejected it with a pin, but now even that doesn't work. Please help

Sounds like a bad drive. I suggest you turn the computer off completely, use a paperclip in the hole to force an eject so you can rescue your disc (unless the drive was really improperly designed, it's a mechanical release, so it doesn't need power, but if you do it when it's on, it's conceivable that the drive motor could kick in to retract it before you can pull it further out, making it seem like the paperclip in the hole doesn't work), then see if you can RMA the drive.

I've seen SATA devices act up like this and sometimes it can be cured by just re-seating the cables or possibly replacing the SATA cable or using a different MB port. Also, try the drive in a different computer and/or try a known good drive in this computer. If that doesn't work throw it away. Remember your troubleshooting a device that costs less than $20 so don't spend a lot of time on it.
