Hi Guys, one are im a little weak on is monitors. i have a 1080p samsung xl2370 at the moment http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

it has served me well, and i am happy with it, but im starting to get a bit bored with it, and feel it could be time for an upgrade...i want something bigger! i have an EVGA GTX780ti sc ACX http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=03G-P4-288...

My question is, is upgrading to 1440p worth it? does anyone have a setup like that? is there a big difference visually?
it is going to be almost exclusively for games. Currently it chews up anything i throw at it at 1080p. I bought this card so i can play my games at ultra settings at 60+ fps. i have noticed that it sometimes dips below 60fps for a few seconds. my logic is that it would be able to play current games at 1440p at AROUND 60fps which i can live with, but what about in a years time? i dont want to have spent so much on a gpu and have to tone down settings in the near future.

I guess what i want to know is, would it be better going for a 1080p 144hz monitor, or taking the step up to 1440p? i dont want my monitor to gimp my gpu.

reviews say the 780ti is overkill for 1080p, and maybe it is today, but what about tomorrow? i want to get max mileage out of my gpu. when the price drops, and new cards are released i would like to pick up a second one & SLI them with a higher resolution monitor.

Depends on what you're looking to get out of it? The visual games off course drastically look better. The movies and videos off course will look the same.

You will notice a dramatic decrease in FPS while playing intensive games.

Notice the drop in almost all good games to less than 60 fps on this benchmark.

Yes there is a big difference visually.

but there is also a massive performance shred on a single card. So that's something you have to consider.

Do you want stunning visuals sacrificed by lower frame rates or great visuals with high frame rates.

Yes, its a great card for 1920 x 1080p resolution and eats away the competition comfortably at that resolution.

You wont' be able to consistently play games at 60 fps even now at that resolution as you can see from the benchmaks.

You will be around 40-60 frames per second with 30 fps dips.

If you play a lot of FPS games the increment from 60Hz to 120Hz to 144 Hz is gonna be tremendous. I don't think it would really matter if you play Need for Speed Rivals or Fifa 14.

Yes , it is a slight overkill for 1080p but it's not an overkill for 2560 resolution. Even now it struggles to keep it above 60fps in BF4 and Crysis 3.
The idea is that if you pick up another and SLI them, then you could probably comfortably last for next 2 years or so, in regards to gaming.

Hope that answers your questions !

It most certainly does Bassim, thank you for the thorough and in depth answers, you confirmed my suspicions! i play a lot of online FPS's (well BF4, a smidge of COD:BLOPSii, and plan on getting titanfall) but im the kind of guy who plays all games.

i think 144hz is going to be the way to go for me. any recommendations? what about this: http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=1...

would it be better to stay around the 24" mark compared to the 27"?

may i ask what system you are running with your 1440p monitor? i wish i could see the difference for myself... but i guess if i do, i will never be satisfied with my 1080 :p

I use a 27 inch Dell u2713HM

yes, if you do see the difference you won't want to go back :p

But i have two monitors anyways, Asus 27 inch 1920 x 1080p because you really can't sometimes play games on my card, on 2560x1080p with all the eye candy, which is unfortunately a 7950 :(

Funnily enough , I like 27 inch screens better than 24 inchers now I've become used to them.

The Asus 144 HZ one is one of the best, out there for playing FPS games for 500 dollars on Umart. I personally never bought it, because I don't do a lot of FPS games, so it wouldn't be a budget investment for me.

Whoops my system..

Core i7 4770k overclocked.
Asus Maximus VI hero.
Samsung 250gb pro SSD , Corsair Force GT 120 gb and tons of other HDDs
Corsair Gaming Series 800W
The monitors.
Sapphire 7950 overclocked to almost a 7970 :p
Corsair Dominator 16GB @ 2133 Mhz.

Thanks Bassim, i appreciate the quick and informative answers.
its my birthday coming up, and ill try convince the missus to pick me up one of those monitors! a point i forgot to mention why i wanted to upgrade is that with my card screen tearing can be really severe sometimes.

i like the idea of a bigger monitor too, i sit quite far away from my monitor (about 1.2 -1.5m) so bigger would serve me better!

Thanks again for the help, best answer selected.
