hi

i am looking to configure and setup a eyefinity system with the quadro k6000.

- budget aint an issue, however, the system needs to be almost flawless when it comes to rendering, video editing, modelling, texturing, rigging and animation.

- i will be buying this workstation in the first couple of weeks of march.

- will i be needing more than one of those beast gpu's?

- lastly, would you suggest 4k resolution monitors for this build, maybe 2 of them, if the budget goes very hard on my pocket after having the hardware in?? if not what would be the rest of the monitor/s?

regards

Monitors > There are now sub-$1,000 4K monitors, but these are 30Hz and TN- not IPS panels. IPS is superior for clarity, depth of image, and off axis. For this system I would recommend waiting until later this year when HDMI 2.0 arrives and there will be 60Hz, IPS panel 4K monitors.

For monitors in the meantime, there are a number of excellent 27" with 10-bit color. One of my favorites and possibly my next monitor is >

ASUS PB278Q 27-Inch WQHD LED-lit PLS Professional Graphics Monitor > $590

> and there are Viewsonic, Samsung, and NEC contenders.

With monitors for systems at this level, I always believe it's necessary to see them in person. The screen coating, controls, color temperature /correction, and even the stand > tilt, height, and swivel are all considerations that have to suit the uses and preference. I have always been careful about monitor selection, and go and see them even if I have to call local firms that are using them, but still am never completely happy.

Whether an additional Quadro K6000 is necessary would depend on the results in your use. I saw a demonstration of a Quadro K6000 with an entire car- every part in Catia and the K6000 could navigate it completely smoothly- you could flip it all around and fly through the center of the wheel bearings. Fantastic. If you are going to be doing heavy video effects processing, and you are using CUDA accelerated you might look into the value of adding a CUDA co-processor like a Tesla K20 or K40, but if there will be three or more monitors, then a second Quadro may be a better choice. My recommendation though would be to test the performance of the base system, see what happens with 4K monitors and go from there.

Cheers,

BambiBoom

thank you mate...for having posted this.. coz over time i realised that having a dedicated system for rendering, modelling, texturing, rigging and animation would be better, than mixing it up with a gaming rig. However, i will definitely buy a dedicated rig for gaming as well, while i get this system too.. Considering to have shell out a lil deep from my pocket, but all good for career and contingency.. thumbs up for this suggestion and to enlighten me with the knowledge of setting up two rigs.. cheers... :D

Punter_ion,

From my perspective, you've had an important insight > that gaming and work hardware / systems continue to diverge and specialize.

Up to a certain level, it's possible to make a system that can accomplish every kind of task, but only up to that certain level. It's more important than ever to let the use drive the choice of programs choices, and the programs and scale of projects drive the hardware choices.

This is especially true with GPU's, though that realm is beginning to merge somewhat in which some CAD, and animation applications are moving towards OpenGL and DirectX. Only three or four years ago, if you were using Autodesk and/or Adobe, a Quadro was almost inevitable for high performance on complex projects. Today, there are a lot of GTX's and R9's going in to specialized workstations, but still, in Maya, a $175 AMD V4900 performs better than a $1,000 GTX Titan while the Quadro semi-equivalent of the Titan, a Quadro K6000 will leave all others behind. So, it's a dog's dinner. The hardware / application speciality is becoming so great, that I've been thinking awhile about setting up a dual boot configuration on my HP z420 such that I can boot to the Quadro 4000- (which will become a K4000) or to a GTX770, and the old reliable Dell Precision T5400 will be race-prepared- stripped down to the bare essentials, to sit in the corner and only run renderings.

Interesting project!

Cheers,
