Questions About Front Panel USB

I bought a PCI USB card with two front panel headers -- this one.

The headers are slightly off as the picture will show, as will this one.

I tried plugging in two different ways, this and that way.
And, according to the charts, one for the header, and one for USB (color coded), I probably don't have the exact connections, either possibly switching the data positive and negative in one -- the way it's currently plugged in, which seems to be working with a somewhat damaged wifi adapter, switching the ground with the power, or switching the power with the one of the data connections, which I'm afraid one of these broke one of my keyboards.

So, my questions are, 1. is there a way I can get it to work safely, 2. would swappinng the data + and - cause any problems, and 3. could messing with this have been what broke my USB keyboard -- and if so, how would I fix it?

just a question, but you do have it installed into a pci slot when trying to use it right? as that is how the two usb ports on the back would work.
the usb header that you are plugging into the card looks like an older form factor and may just not be compatible with the extra headers on the card

Yes, and they work fine.
I understand that, but they all have the same pinout -- this one just has extra empty pins for some reason.
