I recently re-installed my Win7 64Bit after my SSD failure. I have now got my system set the way I like it. EXCEPT that the WIn7 screen saver blanks the screen without regard to my time settings - and also does NOT display any screen saver choices. Just blank.

This got me to thinking that I needed to get my original SP1 Build 7601 up to date - and searching the web I have determined there is o service pack 2 available (that I could find). How best to get up to date - (My prior Win7 experience on this computer had no screen saver issues - and the install was done by a tech - so he must have updated it from a version he had?)

I hate authorizing WIndows to update becuaseit just bloats the SSD system disk with crappy security fixes etc. This system is a sole purpose computer and I am not concerned about security issues as it doesn't "visit" weird sites - and any email is accepted from known sources only.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Robert

Intel's website won't give you anything unless you have an Intel motherboard.

You can delete the temp files that Windows update uses, that will disable the ability to uninstall any of them though, but that is so rarely used that it does not really matter...
"crappy security fixes" is interesting wording for it. It's like saying "crappy seatbelts" that you cut out from your car because they add to your gas use.

Best way to update is to turn on automatic updates or at least run it manually.

If you don't want to do that, read though all the Windows updates and select the ones you want to install based on what you want to install and what you don't.

Did you install the power saving options and other drivers from the motherboard/computer vendor? Did you check the settings on the monitor also?

Ok ok .. the security fixes may not be crappy - but the way that Microsoft performs these updates is IMO. Their process leaves behind so many unused files and folders and they don't - to my knowledge - offer ways to eliminate them.

The monitors and drivers haven't changed since they were used successfully.

The power saving options I haven't touched - so maybe I can check with Intel's site to see if I need something.

Thanks for the idea.

UPDATE: Finally determined that the Samsung SSD performance software had set/changed my power settings to SSD High Performance which wasn't visible until I selected the MORE SETTINGS tab ... then changed it and voila - my Screen aver is working as usual.

Thanks for helpful hints.
