Hey,

I want to have a dual monitor set up at my home office. One 27" monitor for gaming at 2560x1440/1600, the other a cheap/inexpensive 27" monitor to pair with the gaming monitor to be used for work when not gaming.

I have a gtx680 card, and although I am pushing the resolution at max settings for this card, I know I can hook up multiple monitors.

The work application does not require high resolution, I just want more screen real estate for work (office/excel/internet/adobe). I don't want to drop a fortune on an identical second monitor as I am planning on getting a 27" g-sync monitor, or potentially IPS, as the gaming monitor.

After reading several other entries, I am pretty sure this can be accomplished, but I want to check before I purchase the monitors. What are the drawbacks to having different resolution monitors? Will this set up affect my gaming? How will it affect my work environment? Work takes preference here, as does 27" monitors, does it make sense just to get two identical, say, 1080 panels instead?

Thanks in advance.

The only difference in using different monitors is that the colors will look different and the window sizes and locations will seem to move on you when you switch things between the screens. Won't do anything to games because you'll be working on one monitor then.
