I have an Asus z87 motherboard paired with an Intel i7 4771, Windows 8.1. I also have a 120GB SSD, so I was expecting super-fast boot times. However, the Asus splash screen flashes twice. The first one is only a couple of seconds, but the second one hangs around for 30-40 seconds. I have enabled both "Fast Boot" and "Fast HW Boot" in the Bios setup. If I disable the Asus logo display, I just a blank screen that hangs around for nearly as long as the splash screen. Any ideas of how I can speed things up?

Solution
The splash screen is simply displayed because the board is scanning ports or devices. You can disable it but the board will just sit there with a black screen and cursor doing the same thing. In other words, the splash screen itself is not the "issue".

Disable any onboard controllers you are not using (ASMedia etc). Other than that, the POST time can vary depending upon what you have plugged into the board. You can try altering USB full initial to see if that helps also.

I will try those things. But is there any way to eliminate the second splash screen? That's where most of the delay is.
