I build a new desktop from scratch, when powering up, the fams and the power lights - light up but there is no video output or beep sounds. Also, i have run into a dilemma, the psu has only the 20 pin cable - for the main power, the 8+4 gpu cable and another 6 pin cable, which one should i be using for the second mobo powersupply?? I have tried using the solo 6 pin, but the fams dont spin, when i connect the 4/8 pin, everything is spinning but i dont have any video

Specs:

Processor - Amd 6300 (Stock cooler)
Mobo - Asus M5a78
PSU - CoolerMaster RS 350 PSAR 13
RAM - Corsair Vengance 4 gig
GPU - Radeon R7 240

Solution
Your PSU has a 20+4 pin connector for the main motherboard connector and a 4+4 pin connector for the CPU power. You will need to connect the extra 4-pins to the main connector to get the full 24-pins. I believe your motherboard just uses a 4-pin connector for the CPU power so you will only need half of the 4+4 pin connector.

If you are still having problems after getting the correct power connectors plugged into the motherboard then perform all the steps in this troubleshooting checklist and let us know how it goes.

The thing is, after connecting the main power, just with one big cable, there are no ports left open. The dilemma i am hainvg is that, the other cable (one with 6 ports) does not cause anything to happen in the system, and when i connect one of the gpu cables (4 ported) fans spin, lights light up but no video

I have referred to the checklist twice, just to make sure i didnt overlook anything, also i went through the breadboard, its all fine, there is just no display whatsoever

UPDATE: I quadruple checked the power cables, the main says "4p +20 main" so i am guessing that is 24 pins put together, after that, i have 2 sets of cables (coloured yellow and black) one of them is 8+4 and one is 6 (says pci-e on the plastic casing). The cpu does not get power from the 6 pin cable, only from the 4 pin one. Rechecked everything, again, same result, still no video output
