I have a 320GB hard drive that has gone flakey sometimes it loads an most of the time it wont . I would like to try to get my pics an music library off this HD, I have read that I might be able to do this by running 2 HDs of close to or same size in GBs in RAID mode. can you help or is there a way to reformat HD an not lose my data. Iam running Windows XP PRO Thanks

You don't need raid. What you need is another drive with enough room to store those files.
Then simply copy from the old and paste into the new. Do this during the time its actually working.
Verify all the cables (power and data) are in good. Check the motherbd end of the data cable too.

Well, its possible to take it to a PC Shop, and they most likely will do data retrieval, there is a possibility that the driver could be broken (the PCB on the outside of the HDD) which could be replaced. But if the actual platters are damaged/broken or badly fragmented then there might not be much hope
