FX6300 an OK processor for a Minecraft server?

Hello man

Hi. I am building a server to host minecraft. I want it to easily be able to keep up with about 20+ users. I am thinking of using an FX6300 instead of another FX8350. The reason for this is my budget. Also, will 8 GB ram suffice? I have never built a server. Here are components I am considering.

-ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+
-Corsair H60
-FX6300
-RAIDMAX ATX-402WB
-CORSAIR Vengeance LP 16GB
-NZXT HALE82-N NP-1BN-0750A-US 750W PSU
-SanDisk ReadyCache SDSSDRC-032G-G26 2.5" 32GB SATA III
-Win 7 Ultimate

Does this look good? Its right at my budget limit.

SSD / HD - Scratch the ReadyCache drive... If this is where you were planning to install the OS, just use a traditional spindle drive. Seagate 500GB would probably be the best bang for the buck.

CPU Cooler - Skip the water cooler. The Hyper 212 EVO will support a huge overclock (on either FX CPU) for half the cost.

MEM - Fine and all, but the latency is up (CL10). No reason why you shouldn't pull "standard" modules. Look for DDR3-1600 CL9 or DDR3-1866 CL10 (Note that the LP modules you listed are DDR3-1600 CL10 which is higher latency).

CPU - Either of those processors will be fine and will overclock nicely. ...with an aftermarket CPU cooler.

What is your budget?

I run an MC server that has had 30 people on at once and I have 1.5gb of ram, so you should be fine!

My budget is about $500-550. If i get RAM with less latency, will 8Gb or 10Gb be fine? I am getting the H60 because they finally have it in refurb stock, and will move my OLD OLD H50 to my server PC. I was considering the SSD because i wanted super fast read-write speed for reboots. I can install an OS on that SSD correct?

8GB will be fine regardless of the latency. My point there is that lower latency modules cost the same so look toward them over the higher latency modules.

You could install the OS on the ReadyCache drive, but there are better options. Check out the A-Data Premier Pro 64GB or the Kingston V300 60GB.
