different makers of the same GPU

hey
so i am new to building PC's and i dont know why there are different makers for the same type of graphics cards. for example, what is the difference between these two cards :

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-r9270xdc2t2gd5
there are many more radeon R9 270x's and i dont know why. also, is there a certain brand which is the most reliable and best for performance or does it not really matter.

The difference is usually in the bios setting, and obviously in some cases the cooler.

generally cards with the same chip (all 270x's) will perform within 10% of each other, with the ones from manufacturers like asus, or sapphire pulling out slightly ahead due to either a better cooler, or just a higher factory overclock (typically you can overclock it yourself to match anyway, so is just a marketing scheme in that aspect a lot of the time)
