I'm using a Msi P67A-C45 Motherboard, when i enter the BIOS it doesnt let me select a higher overclock than 4,2GHz.. I can choose everything from 17-42 but not a step higher, can anyone tell me what to do or if i just need to get a new motherboard? I just blew my money on an overkill cpu fan and I would love to be able to use it at its highest capacity..

I honestly do not know if I solved it cus if i try to use that thing to higher it it just keeps crashing around 4,4GHz, idk if that's what makes it crash though. My CPU spec is i7-2600 @3,4GHz

Is that an i7 2600 or i7 2600k? The "k" is the important part! As well as overclocking, have you also adjusted the CPU voltage?

At any rate, the crashes you have are either due to CPU voltage or overheating. At what point does the computer crash? If it's during POST, then a lack of voltage is the likely cause. If it's whilst stress testing, then it's likely due to overheating.

I have a 2600 without the k, I have not adjusted any cpu voltage at all but i will try to find a point at where my computer crashes

(not overheating, 50degrees celsius on 100% load, when my computer starts it just turns off then starts then turns off, in an endless loop till i pull the power cord out.)

Then I will try to adjust the cpu voltage bit by bit and see if it stops crashing, but will I be able to go over 4,2GHz with the 2600?

I've never tried to overclock a non-k Intel processor so I can't offer much advice, but my gut instinct is to tread very carefully. You're forcing the processor to do something that it wasn't designed to do.

I'd play it safe, forget about overclocking and go back to stock speed. The crashes and boot loops you experience are almost certainly because you're trying to overclock a processor that isn't built for it.

I'm running it fine at 3,9GHz, can't run any higher than that though cus my multiplier is stuck at 39.. I will leave it at 3,9 though, I already spent money on an overkill cpu fan and i don't want to run it at stock speed like that..

I have had just a little experience with overclocking non "k" Intel CPUs and the MAX overclock you can do is whatever the boost clock is. So let's say your stock clock is 3.4 and boost is 3.9 well then you could over clock so the CPU is always 3.9. With "k" CPUs it is unlocked and you can over clock pretty much till you are at the thermal limit.

In other words 3.9 is the best you'll get. Just make sure you don't mess around with voltage and other stuff if you don't know for sure what your doing because you could burn out parts of your system

+1 from what I've found out via Google. The highest overclock for a non-k processor is whatever the turbo boost is.

You learn something new every day.
