xbox 360 controller help

so I have a 360 wired controller and I downloaded the driver for it and plug in the controller and nothing well it said did not successfully installed now I went into device manager and in the usb it said unknown device now I don't have a others tab I tried looking for it on update driver but nothing then I plugged it in the other computer same thing happen so I'm wondering if it is my controller but I can press the middle button and it flashes green I tried updating and all but nothing I really don't know what to do here if anyone could help me in this matter it would mean alot thank you for reading this I know it's long sorry

the controllers aren't compatible with windows other than for charging benefits, i fell for the same thing thinking i could use it for gaming, sorry to disappoint

Was it on windows xp? As I know there were drivers to support the xbox. 360 controller, since installing win 7 I haven't actually found a compatible driver, you may have some luck with the link provided by Sweeney though I tried all drivers from Microsoft and all efforts came to no avail
