My boys ran our box out of HHD storage so I purchased a new 2 TB HHD and upgraded from Vista Ultimate to Windows 8.1. The Windows 8.1 install was from scratch. Ever since I installed Windows 8.1 the computer constantly with no repeatable pattern shuts down and reboots. No problem for me except my 2 boys are constantly hacking on me for not being able to solve the problem. I've looked around the forums thinking it's some sort of driver issue but have not been able to nail it down. Any help to guide my to identification of the problem and potential solution would be greatly appreciated. Soon before the boys put me on Craigs List. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I purchased a different software for updating drivers and it found an out of date chipset driver on the motherboard. I updated the driver this evening.
I'll have the boys take the box out for a test run tomorrow and see if the system is stable. I'll update my results.

No better. 4 crashes with in a 2 hour period.
