Yes, and the PC he built is more then sufficient, sometimes, it's not always about the amount you spend, but the quality of the parts xD

But yes, you could spend the whole 3K on it, and that could even power 3 displays if wanted.

You can get something with very similar performance for hundreds of dollars less. The reason I went up to cap is because you said that you wanted the budget to go up to 3k. With the $300 left in the budget I would buy a Chromebook from Samsung. They are a little over $250, and are perfect for most everyday uses.

If I were you, I'd get like a 1500-2000 gaming rig, spend the 250-350 on a laptop and then save the rest.

Why a Chromebook? The operating system is terrible. I wouldn't get anything that doesn't have Windows 8 or 8.1 on it, and I definitely wouldn't spend $600 in peripherals when you can always buy that stuff later. Do this for the build:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($209.99 @ TigerDirect)
CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme 99.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme6 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($158.49 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($84.99 @ Newegg)

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB Video Card ($695.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Titanium Grey) ATX Mid Tower Case ($129.99 @ Best Buy)
Power Supply: NZXT HALE90 V2 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($168.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($19.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit) ($142.27 @ TigerDirect)
Total: $1841.65

That will give you $500 left over toward the monitor which I would suggest a good 2560 x 1440 or 2560 x 1080 display over 1920 x 1080, and then you can add whatever keyboard and mouse you want. It also gives you room for a second GTX 780TI later on. And then for the laptop I'd suggest this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Initially I did not see the "I will use the both for the same." Just didn't bother to edit it. And you get what you pay for. Capable for minimal tasks and portable. I got one and I love it. I use it for the sole purpose of being my school computer and it works more than fine for me.

Also, while I would normally agree with you that an i5 and 8gb of ram is more than enough for a gaming machine, he did also say "hardcore gamer photshopper video editer." With a 3000 dollar budget, why not add the $150-200 upgrade for an i7 and 16gb? Also since the budget is so large, a 250gb SSD offers a lower price per gb, while not dumping too much into it. And as I specified, very similar performance could be achieved for hundreds less. Obviously he could get a less flashing motherboard, a 780 instead of the 780ti, cheaper case etc. Furthermore, the OP also specified that he wanted it to include a 1080p screen, keyboard, mouse and headset. So the $600 in peripherals is exactly what he asked for. Did you even read the OP?

This had probably gone on long enough without the specificity that we need. If you could fill out the template, it would give people a much better idea of your preferences, needs, etc. $3000 is a lot of money and you want to make sure that what you are getting will fit your needs.

When you say "good laptop for college" do you mean you want the laptop to be a gaming/editing machine as well as a gaming/editing desktop?

I did read the OP, and yes, I still stand by my claim that $600 in keyboard, mouse, and headset is *WAY* overkill and you can always add that stuff as needed. Whether or not the i7 is needed depends on what the OP is actually going to be getting out of it. If they're using some serious CS 5/6 in addition to gaming then absolutely I'd recommend spending the extra money. If they're doing more gaming than CS 5/6 then I can't see spending the extra money on that for that purpose. You can run CS 5/6 without an i7. I priced out a build that's $1800, which gives the OP more than $1200 to spend on a solid laptop like a Lenovo Y510P (not a Chromebook... ugh) and whatever monitor, keyboard, and mouse they want.

For your uses though you don't need a 4770K. Take the money you would be spending on that and put it in something else - whether it's your monitor or upgrading parts on your new laptop.

He said he's doing photoshop so the 4770 isn't out of line. He also said good headphones so I'm not "upset" about $600 in peripherals. I thought the build wasn't bad overall. Powerful for gaming, and has the muscle for PS and other tasks. 850W PSU was the worst thing I saw.

If you really want to blow the whole 3k$ on the rig then i suggest waiting for the GTX 790 that is if you are patient...
