Power Supply Recommendation

I have a 500 watt power supply and am getting a new graphics card. I either will get a gtx 760 or 770. The 760 says a minimum of 500 watts and the 770 says a minimum of 600 watts. Would 500 watts still work for the 770 and they are just being cautious or if I buy a 770 will it not work?

It's not really the overall wattage that you need to worry about, its the amps on the 12v rail. For the gtx 770, its recommended to have 42amps on the 12v. If your power supply has 40 or more, you should be ok, assuming its a decent one thats tier 1 or 2 on this list http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1925006/power-supply-tiered-list.html

A GeForce GTX 770 needs at least 42 amps on the 12 v rail and a 550w power supply.

The XFX 550W has 44 amps on the 12 volt rail and will easily power a system with a single 770.
