Rebuilding raid5 with sil3114

Hi All,

I built a FreeNAS system with an Sil3114 Raid5 array using 4 disks. The controller died, and so did the system. Fortunately the drives are ok. I bought a new Sil3114 and put it and the drives into a Vista machine.

The drives are all recognised by the system and the card appears functional, but the drives aren't recognised as a raid5 array in the SATARAID5 Management Software - it lists them all as "pass-thru".

There's no option to "bring RAID group online" or "rebuild RAID group", only to create one. I have data on the drives, which I don't want to trash by creating a new group.

Raid Reconstructor recognises that they are indeed a raid set.

Next safe thing to try? TIA

Solution
In the previous FreeNAS system, how is the RAID5 was created?

Most likely the RAID5 was created with FreeNAS software RAID and the HDD was in "pass thru" mode

My guess to get your data back, you need to put it back to FreeNAS

Thanks FireWire2. I'm going to say that you are probably right, and I'll go through those motions. I'm guessing that it's a FreeNAS softraid. I thought that softraids wrote some config info on the disks, but I could be wrong about that.

Anyway, the good news is that I did find a FREENAS 0.69rc2 build along with my saved FreeNAS config.xml file on CD - apparently I can use that to rebuild the whole nas on a new system. Now if I can only figure out how to do that... more to follow later!
