Hard drives and SSD's do not need drivers. However, Windows XP can't install onto a SATA drive without SATA drivers being installed (I think it says press F6 to install drivers which has to be done with a floppy disk). If you don't have a floppy drive and a disk with the drivers (obtained from your motherboard manufacturer) you will need to "slipstream" the drivers into your installation. NLite is a free useful program to do that and there are instructions on how to do it on the internet. I've never used Vista but it looks like it might have the same limitation.
