So im looking into connect a router to another router and most of what i see is connecting them via LAN-LAN, which makes the second router an access point. I was reading THIS and it says (under "Use a Second Router as an Access Point">"C: Connect the Two Routers with a Cat-5 Cable") "Since everything is part of the same home network, all your shared folders, music libraries, photos, and other files will be accessible from all computers and mobile devices that are connected to the network."

Does that mean that if i am on my pc, connected to the (second router) access point, will people connected to the first router be able to see what is on my pc, like the files and stuff under my documents or on my desktop?

What if i do LAN(first router) to WAN (second router)?

Default settings are fine, generally. You have to specifically share something (by placing it in a shared folder or marking it as shared) for it to be accessible.

Your iPod probably isn't an issue; I'm not sure what they share but I think you can play stuff to them.

Anything you can do from your computer to another device on the same network, someone else can do. However, most of that isn't exactly a security issue.

What do you expect to do with the access point? Is it publically accessible, or is it a one for just your friends+family?
Only shared files (your desktop + documents aren't shared by default, pretty much only the actual 'shared files' folder). If they couldn't get to it connected via ethernet, they won't be able to over WiFi.

If you do it WAN>LAN, you've got double NAT which causes a whole pile of trouble with VoIP, online gaming, and a couple of other things. Avoid it like the plague.

I know they will see my computer is connected to the network, but all I really care about is that they can't access the data on my pc or devices and can't see what I'm doing online or see what I'm doing on my pc and devices. Someone on Hardforum said that as long as I turn off network discovery and file sharing, they won't be able to see what's on my pc; idk about wifi connected devices like my iPod touch though :/ Away from my pc so can't check to see the printer options, but ill do it when the time comes and disable it. Any help with the problems above, like my iPod touch and the whole access data part, please?

Thanks! Well, me and my parents and sister will be moving into the gurt house of my aunt and uncle for a couple of months only *knocks on wood* while escrow closes on the house we're buying, since our current house is sold and buyers are moving in on Thursday. My aunt and uncle have Internet, and we will need Internet, so why not use theirs? Lol. But yeah, it will be private just for me and my parents and sis. I just don't want my aunt and uncle to see what we are doing online on their Internet, see our browser histories, see what were doing on our devices or pc, or be able to see/access the data on our devices and pc. Will that be possible with a second router as an access point that we (me+parents+sis) will be connected to?
