Hello Everyone, I am having a problem with my computers sound. I recently bought a new monitor that i connect though an HDMI port on my graphics card. The monitor has no speakers but for some reason my PC thinks it does. I have the dreaded little X on the speaker icon in my bottom right tray. I plugged in my friends monitor though the on board DVI and the normal speakers output shows up and everything runs fine.

I've read on a lot of forums that this problem can be fixed by simply right clicking on the icon, opening up playback devices and selecting HD speakers as my default playback ( not through HDMI audio playback). But It is saying that I have no audio output device installed. In playback, recording, and when i hover over the icon.

All I am looking to do is have my video though HDMI, and simply run all my audio though my normal speakers out of the little green jack like usually. I have to imagine I'm overlooking a small detail or something. I can 100% say for sure that all my drivers and software is up too date, my BIOS is set to the internal output, and for sure the speakers are plugged in =P. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you For you time and responses in advance.

I had the same issue. In Sound Playback Devices, I could see the sound meter working but no sound. I selected that sound device, went into sound properties and selected "DO no use this device".

The sound started coming out my computer again! YeeHawww!

Thanks for the response, but under my sounds playback menu, nothing shows up. It states that no audio devices are installed.

Is there anyone else that knows how to override how sound is played back through your windows PC? I find it crazy that this isn't a more common problem. HDMI monitor without speakers and windows just thinks it is. Under my playback sound dialog box nothing shows up. Been without sound for far too long now and like a dummy I got rid of my old monitor without thinking this would be a problem.
