Overclocking GPU memory...?

Is it really necessary to overlock the Memory on the GTX 770 2gb since it is so fast anyway. 7010mhz on a 256 bit bus. Seems like it would no really make a difference at 1080p. I may be wrong...let me know.

We're overclocking the base clock of the GPU which is like 1046 MHz or so. This memory frequency of 7010MHz is effective memory rate (Real rate is 1752 MHz, which is calculated as 7010 / 4 = 1752) and is stated like 7 Gb/s. Don't confuse it with GPU's clock.

Yeah...I know what you mean. I should have been more specific. I have been doing some benchmarking just to see what is what with my card. So I use Evga Precision, got the GPU core clock offset at 75mhz.. not much i know but it does make a difference somehow. I have the Memory clock offset at 150mhz. So GPU can boost around 1156mhz. I remember seeing a review for the GTX 770 when it came out and it was said to have the fastest effective Memory speed ever at the time.

Yes, it was so. Effective memory rate of 770 is more than 780 and at par with 780 Ti. With little bit voltage regularization I was able to push my GTX 660 to 1200 MHz (but ran into heating issue).
