Hi.
I have an XFX radeon 7950 3GB 900M graphic card, which i'm not sure if it is enough. i have got an offer from the seller who sold me this graphic card (Topdata.dk) to change my graphic card to an asus gtx 770 2gb for an extra $110. should i do this or should i choose to go for another card?
The reason i ask is that i want to be able to play new games in the highest settings possible without any toruble/lag, and want to try out BF4. i run on an 1080P monitor (thinking of getting an 1440P in about half a year or something) and my computer setup is:
Intel core i7-2700K
XFX radeon hd 7950 3GB
Kingston 16 GB RAM
1 TB sshd harddisc
800W powersupply. (Crossair GS800)
asus p8z68 pro gen3 motherboard

So is it worth getting the other graphic card? or should i ask for a different graphic card?
I hope someone can help me here :)

Christian E.

hi friend your current gpu is quite capable for current games and bf4 (especially affter the mantle patch). gtx770 wont be such a leap ahead. also since you are planning on getting a 1440p monitor 2gb vram wont be enough.you better get your new monitor first and then upgrade to 3-4gb gpu when the time comes.for the time being you could try a bit of an o/c and get some extra performance.you can easilly hit 4.3-4.4ghz on you cpu but you will need and aftermarket cooler.for the gpu you can easily hit 1ghz on the core.

i only got one post from you, so no prob :)
when i bought the computer it had an extra cooler and the coller on the CPU had also been changed to something that looks VERY similar to this one http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-air-cooler/hyper-212-evo/
but i have no experience about OC'ing so can you tell me what difference it would make to oc the CPU and the GPU from their standerd settings? and would they be in danger of overheating or something? and how is it done :) ?

the particular cpu cooler is very good, so a very close to that will be also good. so with such a cooler and a good mobo you are good to go as far as o/c. the goal is to have better performance and take out the most of your hardware. if you are ok with your performace though, you dont need to. if your tower has good air flow and ventilation you can achieve better speeds and keep the temps at good levels. the danger of overheating exists but with good cooling and cpu-gpu temp monitoring you can minimize or even nullify the posibility. as i said your current gpu is up to the task and battlefield will be like a charm(also on bf4 for zero micro stutter you need to unpark your cpu cores if you are on windows 7 you could try this utility) http://www.coderbag.com/Programming-C/Disable-CPU-Core-Parking-Utility . finaly my opion is that wait till you get your new hardware and in the mean time you can study about o/c.:) http://club.myce.com/f184/easy-overclocking-guide-intel-sandy-bridge-ivy-bridge-cpus-329214/

thank you for the information, i'll try and check the links out :)
but how about this, my friend is willing to sell me an asus gtx 670 2gb for $184,31. would it be a good idea to try to see if my own xfx 7950 could be changed into that kind of card and run it in sli?
atm i'm using that gtx 670 because i have been without any graphic cards for some time because of the repair time, and only just got the xfx 7950 some days ago :) so actually i havent even tryed my xfx 7950 out yet ^^

well if you can pull this off and have 2x670 in sli you can achieve better performance but even then, you will still have 2gb of vram.it wont be added and counted as 4gb. only 2gb will be managable since the vga info will to be mirrored. so in a 1440p resolution you will still run out of memory on highest setting especially on the upcaming titles. also 670 is on par performance with your 7950 and at 1440p even they wont run out of memory they will surely struggle.

for 1 monitor, 2GB is fine. The 770 won't be a massive jump over the 7950 (I had a GTX680 o/c to 770 and now 7950 crossfire, a single 7950 can easily be o/c to match my o/c 680, not sure how much further a 770 can be o/c as they're already a o/c'd 680). I get nearly double performance with 7950 crossfire, no issue with crossfire. I run 3 screens, BF4 ultra 2xMSAA, Titanfall insane, mostly 60fps.

I did have XFX double D 7950 crossfire, but the coolers were terrible, so swapped them for HIS ICEq which are awesome as they also exhaust the hot air, got them cheap too, I know the price have gone up a bit, but I would recommend another 7950, particularly if you ever do 3 monitors (I would also recommend this too, you'll never go back to 1 monitor!).

as i said before, 7950 is on par with 670 on performance. for 1080p 2gb vram is enough. for 1440p more vram is more like to be needed and since you already have a 7950 which has 3gb better stick with that and you can always add another later!

then how about a radeon r9 280x? should i try to ask if it is possible to change it into that one? and is AMD's cards more preferable over the nividea? because of the higher Vram?
the reason is that not many sells the 7950 card anymore therfore it is hard to find, and if i have to buy a new one it will cost about $400 + or maybe cheaper if it is a used card :)?
also i dont plan on getting 3 monitors, i think they would take up too much space, and i think that the graphic on a 1440p is pretty nice :)

since 7950 is hard to find and too expensive better stick with single card config.280x is also expensive and since your monitor upgrade will be half year ahead im sure you will be able to find 290-780 on a more affordable price tag at that time on the other hand, if you are so eager to sli-crossfire, proceed since you also have the option.:)

i think i will just stick with the 7950 as you say it can easily be oc'ed a bit, if needed to, and is more than capable of running bf 4 on my one 1080p monitor. i havent followed the graphic card industry, but how often does the price tags on the cards change? and what is your guess for the price tags on these graphic cards? :)
also you mean that 3gb vram on my 7950 is better than the 2 vram on the gtx 670, and the 7950 just need to be oc'ed a bit to get on pair performance as the other card? in terms of the other things that matters for a graphic cards performance ? :)

Great article! i think i'll wait then :)
But now i have a different question, would it be wise of me to sell my 7950 for $270-300, and buy the gtx 670 from my friend for $185?
