Haswell or 6 core for photo and video editing

My computer is on and in use up to 18 hours per day (often longer). I am treating myself to convert my rig from an every day set up to a workstation that is more stable running for long periods and will still be functioning well over time.
Apart from every day usage I do undertake a lot of photo editing and video editing.
Whilst I have narrowed down what I want by way of hardware I am of two minds about the CPU. My strong inclination is to go for a 6 core Intel - Ivy Bridge is within my costing idea but these run on socket 2011 which is quiet old + the fact that I had already chosen the a Asus P9 WS motherboard.
However I do realize that this can be seen as old technology by some, where as the Haswell cpu is generation 4, but has only been produced as a Quad cpu. Is there any sign that a 6 core Haswell is in Intel thinking / plans? Obviously if opinion was to go for the Haswell and I was convinced, I would have to rethink the motherboard which would present me with a more limited choice than the 2011 socket WS.

I would appreciate any comments and thoughts.

you could get a xeon cpu with is basically the i7 without built in graphics, and it costs the same, if not lesser, than the i5 cpu. It's 8 threads. If I could do it over again I'd get the Xeon just for 8 threads, although the quad core i5 is no slouch at all, and can easily overclock it.

Thanks for the Info - it is very useful and helps me think things through. I am now also considering the Xeon.
It appears to me that everyone has a differing opinion all are sound and will work but, they all give you new leads to follow and things to think about. I am now investigating further all suggestions to see which one appears to suite my needs more closely than the others. Unless it is a specialized build for a specific scientific need it is most probably down to personnel choice
