My computer is on and in use up to 18 hours per day (often longer). I am treating myself to convert my rig from an every day set up to a workstation that is more stable running for long periods and will still be functioning well over time.
Apart from every day usage I do undertake a lot of photo editing and video editing.
Whilst I have narrowed down what I want by way of hardware I am of two minds about the CPU. My strong inclination is to go for a 6 core Intel - Ivy Bridge is within my costing idea but these run on socket 2011 which is quiet old + the fact that I had already chosen the a Asus P9 WS motherboard.
However I do realize that this can be seen as old technology by some, where as the Haswell cpu is generation 4, but has only been produced as a Quad cpu. Is there any sign that a 6 core Haswell is in Intel thinking / plans? Obviously if opinion was to go for the Haswell and I was convinced, I would have to rethink the motherboard which would present me with a more limited choice than the 2011 socket WS.
I would appreciate any comments and thoughts.
