I just recently installed a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB in one of my PC's. Works GREAT. I previously had a Plextor 128 GB in that PC which was also very good, but in time ran low on Drive C space, I purchased the 250 GB Samsung and used the Samsung Data Migration and Magician software that came with the 840 EVO to make the switch. My question is this: I would like to install this old Plextor 128 in another PC. Can I use the Samsung CD & software to migrate the data from this other PC onto the Plextor SSD, or will this software only work on a Samsung SSD?

That Samsung software only works with a Samsung SSD as the target drive.

You can, however, use any third-party drive-imaging or cloning software to achieve the same thing on your other computer, with any brand of HDD or SSD as the target.

I use Active@ Disk Image because it's always been rock-solid & reliable, and I use it every month to create a new backup image of the system drive on my laptop and on my desktop PC. It will perform cloning function too:

There are free alternatives if you'd rather not pay for one:

Macrium Reflect Free: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

Paragon Backup & Recovery Free: http://www.paragon-software.com/home/br-free/

Drive Image XML: http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm

probably many more if you google Free drive imaging software
