Should I crossfire or single card?

Hello Everyone,

I have two AMD Radeon 7850's. I had one originally but I wanted to play Shogun II maxed out over 30FPS so I bought a second card. I tried running them in crossfire, but really the performance didn't go up much. I was still hanging around 30FPS at max settings.

I tried overclocking more and then realized that with my 7850 clocked to 1150Mhz that I got much better performance while crossfire was disabled.

I bought better cooling supplies recently and so I am not planning to buy a new card. I just wonder should I sell or gift away one 7850? Was it just a fluke and better drivers will help? I think if I remove one 7850 I can better control the other one and overclock it higher because I hadn't increased voltage at all yet.

I am conflicted which way to go. Please share any thoughts.

try to sell both of them (doesn't matter even if its for a loss of 100$) and then buy an EVA GeForce GTX 680.

it provides similar performance like the 7850's in crossfire.

buy two connect in sli for maxed out performance.

I just said I don't want to buy a new card, though given the huge premium Nvidia charges if I would buy one I would go with an AMD R9 290 which is better performance and cheaper. When it comes to high end cards with the exception of the Nvidia 780ti none of them are really good in terms of performance/dollar.
