Please help me wonderful Tom's Community!

I built my PC last year and it has been working great for the past six months. This was my first build so I was really proud of how few problems I have had...until now.

After a nice little session of Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl I turned the system off for the day. Today, from nowhere, I get "Your system needs to be repaired" blue screen on startup, error code 0xc0000034. The only thing apart from gaming that I did between the fine boot and bad boot was a scan using Windows Defender, so I have no idea why this has happened!

I have tried to fix the problem myself but I am getting nowhere. So far I have tried:

1. Using the auto-repair feature as part of the Windows 8 installation disk. All that happens here is I am told the attempt has been unsuccessful.

2. Various commands using the command prompt feature of the Windows 8 installation disk. Specifically, I have tried:
- Bootrec /fixmbr This is marked as being successful
- Bootrec /fixboot This is marked as being successful
- Bootrec /scanos This is marked as being successful, with one installation being found
- Bootrec /rebuildbcd This is followed by the question "Add installation to boot disk?" After entering "Y", all I get is "the requested system device cannot be found"
- BCDboot c:\windows /s c: /l en-us This is marked as "boot files successfully created".
After entering these in this order, closing the prompt window, turning the PC off, disconnecting the external DVD drive used for the installation disk then turning back on, I still get the blue screen.
- cd windows\system32\config This is the first step of several in a guide video on Youtube, but all that occurs is "The system cannot find the path specified".

I then went the "sod it, start over" route despite really not wanting to, transferring the SSD to an external caddy and pulling off my wanted files using my laptop, then reconnecting to the PC in question.

3. I tried the "Refresh Your PC" feature on the Windows 8 installation disk, but all I get here is "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again".

4. I tried the "Reset Your PC" feature on the Windows 8 installation disk, but all I get here is "Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing".

5. I tried the "System Restore" feature on the Windows 8 installation disk, but all I get here is "restart this computer, select an operation system, and then select System Restore". I have no idea where this is pointing to and I am pretty sure I did not create a restore point anyway, my thinking being "I'll just start over if it came to it".

6. I tried the "Install Now" option on the Windows installation disk (so ignoring the repair your pc link followed before) and after entering my product key, I get a list of partitions. I have:
Drive 0 Partition 1:Recovery (Type: Recovery)
Drive 0 Partition 2 (Type:System)
Drive 0 Partition 3 (Type: MSR (Reserved))
Drive 0 Partition 4 (Type: Primary)
There is a message that Windows can't be installed on Drive 0 Partition 1-4 because the selected disk is of the GPT partition style.

Please help me. I am depressed, upset and generally grumpy over this. Surely there is something that can be done before throwing out what appears to be a fine SSD and buying another. I'm not rich after all.

Thanks for reading :)

System Specs:
Crucial M4 256GB SSD - About 5 years old, taken from my laptop and put in my new build.
AMD FX-6300
Asus M5A97 R2.0 Motherboard
8GB Ram
GTX 760
OCZ 600W PSU

Seems I have solved this! If you have similar, preferably identical symptoms as I have described above, then read this post, including the comments to it: http://www.qliktips.com/2012/11/fix-windows-8-boot-issue.html
There you shall find the answer..
It involves naming a partition then using the following command:
BCDBoot c:\Windows /s z: /f UEFI
Make sure you read all the comments to get this to work!
Hope this helps someone out there!
