Is it time to upgrade

Solution
I've run into the same problem. The best way to test if your wireless router speeds vs your actual service speeds are really limiting you is to simply plug in a patch cord for your internet access and temporarily disable your wireless access on your device/computer and then run an internet speed test benchmark or just compare download speeds from the same exact site/file with wired and non-wired setups for your computer.

For example, the comcast speed test: http://speedtest.comcast.net/
If you have a major internet provider, chances are they have a speed test in-place.
Services such as Netflix also display your current streaming speed, another easily observable measure.

In my own situation, I found the only thing that improved...
It's only time to upgrade if you need new features, if the current speeds of your router are bottlenecking your internet or network access or if your router isn't working reliably.

If it's not broken, don't fix it.

I don't always believe that saying but with wireless routers, since even with the highest rated models, the reliability and stability seem to be a shot in the dark.

I was kind of leaning towards that. I'm in the country, and I have horrible internet "speed" (AVG 80 ping AVG 2.8 down AVG .3 up). Also, it's kind of sad that I would call that slow. I was raised trying to game on 56k dial-up. I'm mainly concerned with online gaming still, and because games are so advanced now it seems much more data is being transferred it is often slow to unplayable. Would getting a new router improve that at all?

Your speed depends on your plan. That means, your internet service provider (ISP) controls the packets at the time they are sendinf it to you. If you are thinking that chaging modem will give you a better speed, in that case, i doubt...nope!! Your current modem is pretty good I might say depending on your bandwidth watever you mentioned! Try to access your modem administrator page and go to the modem propertice, check for the LINE ATTINUATION and SNR MARGINE. I am giving my current status. My line grade according to pintest.net website is B (or sometimes B+). If you think that your propertice are different like anything, call your ISP. These things will help you to get at least stable connection.

My propertice:

My propertice:

Downstream Upstream

SNR Margin : 9.3 13.4 db

Line Attenuation : 11.3 6.7 db

Data Rate : 18209 868 kbps

Max Rate : 20076 1263 kbps

CRC : 1 0

Best way to test your bandwidth what you are getting from your ISP is : www.speedtest.net
It will not show you the speed you are getting on your WiFi. If you want to test your wifi speed, connect two wifi device and transfer a large movie file from one device to anoter device. You will came to know about your wifi speed.
