Hey there,

I am talking about an old home desktop (Lenovo 3000 J200 9691 G34) being used by my young brother for gaming and surfing the internet.

These are the current specs of the system:
CPU: Core2Duo E4600 2.4GHZ
RAM: 2GB DUAL CHANNEL 667MHZ
Graphics: GeForce 9400GT 512MB
Motherboard: Intel 945GC
PSU: 280W ATX Power Supply; Robust
Hard Drive: 160GB HITACHI + 500GB WD SCOPRIO BLUE

Full specs

I am thinking of getting an used GeForce GT 240 512MB (about 40$) instead of the current 9400GT. Will the upgrade make real difference in games? Will it be able to run current games at low-medium settings smoothly?

And will the card work at all with this PSU? I can see that this card requires 350W.

GT 240 is an preety old card.
you can replace your 9400GT with GT 630.
GT 630 is slightly better than GT 240 and GT 630 requires 300W of power so,
it will be better for you to buy an GT 630 rather than GT 240.
