Hey guys I know its a stupid question but how is the nvidia gtx 680? I have been saving up for r9 280x but my friend who is rich as hell just bought 2 r9 290x for crossfire and wants to sell his gtx 680. He just bought that with custom gaming pc 1 month ago. He will sell it to me for 225$. Now will I buy it? Or save up for a r9 280x(400$)? The problem is that gtx 680 released 2 years ago and I dont know if it is backdated. will I be able to use it properly for atleast 2 years? And plus there is no warranty since he bought it from another country. Or shall I just buy a r9 270x?

I would say the GTX 680 is about on par with a GTX 770. Both of which will play most games on max graphics on 1080P. Yes, it's a powerful card, and would do fine for awhile. Is it future proof? It probably won't be "ideal" in two years, but it shouldn't be, by any means, a slouch.

I can't speak for AMD but I'll bet that the 280X is about par with a GTX 680 as well, if not a little slower. I don't really have time at the moment to post up some benchmarks, but there out there if you care to do some research.

I should add in some info- I want to be able to play games like the division, titanfall, witcher 3, watch dogs, bf4 etc in ultra in 1080p. Is the 2gb vram gonna be a problem? And is the r9 280x gonna be better for future proofing for 2 years? Like being new is it gonna be much better? I saw some benchmarks but I am confused whether the lack of warranty gonna prove to be a problem?

2GB VRAM Should do just fine for 1080p gaming. It should be able to play BF4 on ultra. I don't think an R9 280x will be any more or less future proof than a 680 as far as raw power goes. The extra VRAM might be nice to have, but you can't beat that price on a 680. You'd probably end up shelling out at least an extra $150-$200 for a good 4GB VRAM version card anyway.

You could always SLI down the line if it so suits.

If you're not adverse to a little overclocking (and the cooler is up to it) you should have it running at stock GTX770 speeds in a few minuets, besides, the GTX770 is just a tweaked GTX680, the older card isn't quite as fast but for a <>$200 saving I'd be jumping at it.
Here's a review of the early reference version of the GTX770, they compare it to the GTX680 in the benchmarks for your pleasure and convenience: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_770/
