I have an AlienWare Aurora R4, it has a built in RealTek, unfortunately, I do not know the exact model of the chip, doesn't seem to be anyway to identify it, however it has 7.1 and an optical out. I also have a SoundBlaster Titanium Fatality in one of the PCI slots.

In my gaming office I have 5 decent polk speakers and subwoofer connected to a mid range Denon receiver from 2007. 9I can't remember model number off top of my head).

Finally I have a Radeon 7870 that comes with AMD HD Audio out the HDMI interface. My question is are all 3 of these devices exactly the same if I use an optical ToS cable because it is just sending digital data to the Denon and the Denon then converts to analog and amplifies? is my assumption correct? or is the an advantage to using the SoundBlaster or the AMD over the RealTek? Does any DAC happen on the computer before it goes to the Denon?
Now if I use headphones that is a different story right? because my computer either the SoundBlaster or the realTEk does the DAC then Amplification? Or would I still be better off plugging headphones into the Denon?

Also are my following assumptions correct?

MP3 and CD are two channel and are uncomressed PCM going out the optical cable because the player software has uncompressed and read the format?

A DVD uses compressed Dolby Digital or DTS and sends the untouched Dolby to the receiver to decode it?
