Just bought Thief, need to know what to upgrade!

I was watching a video on "The Order" for PS4, the graphics look ridiculous. How do i get my PC to look like that?

Also what would be the best component to upgrade to be able to play Thief at max settings? I can currently play at max now with fps at around 40ish and it's a little choppy, not sure why tho.

I'm running a rather old system:
CPU: i7 2600
GPU: GTX 580
MB: Asus p8z68 deluxe
ram: 16gb

Budget: $200 is preferable unless there is a huge difference in quality with something a little more expensive

  1. You cant upgrade the GPU for a better for that much and the rest of the system is also good and not that old. Maybe turn AA and AF little down.
  2. The only thing you need to upgrade is the GPU really, the 2600 is still an extremely good CPU. @1080p a GTX 770 will be more than enough to run that game I'm sure, though at your budget of 200$ you wont get much of an upgrade from your 580.
  3. If you fiddle with the settings a bit you might not need to do anything, granted Thief JUST came out and I don't know what settings the actually give, but if there are advanced options you can try turning down any Anti-Aliasing a bit, the shadows a smidgen (Thief is the one game where I wouldn't turn shadows completely off), and you may get the results you want.

Thief on ps4 runs at 900p and only 30 frames per second. which is a far cry from what you're trying to do on the PC.

I hear a lot of people say gtx 770 is one of the best. I have found a few on slick deals going for $270 and gtx 760's going for $200. Is there that big a difference to warrant me going for the 770?

Yes because there is not much difference between GTX 580 and GTX 760, so only GTX 770 is an option.
  6. 760 is a great card, but the 770 is going to be your top 1080p performer from nvidia, with that negligible price difference you mentioned the 770 is a fantastic buy.
  7. thanks everyone for your input
  8. one other question i wanted to ask: What's up with the new Maxwell architecture? Should I wait for the newer gpu's? Is there a release date for them?
