Hi everyone!

Well this has got me totally stumped. A friend of mine toted in his HP Pavillion 6733w and asked if I could fix it. The PC had the signature green blink on the PSU and the power button was unresponsive.

SO I plugged in a spare PSU (a 300w genaric from a different HP tower model) and sure enough the PC booted up no problem, so we ordered him a replacement PSU (here is the model...it's a piece of junk but I think it is proprietary and the only one I know of that fits in the case).

I installed the new PSU and to my surprise I got the same green blinking light (on both motherboard and back of PSU). I put the new PSU into a different rig and it powered on the system just fine! I'm totally at a loss for why the PSU would work in one system and not the 6733, especially when it is the exact same model as the original PSU that came with the tower.

Any ideas guys? I've done full teardowns of the system by removing all components and testing them one by one...RAM, card reader, CMOS bat, hard drive, the whole nine yards and nothing seems to work.

Thanks so much for any suggestions, this one has me totally vexed.

either a bad CPU or bad motherboard is what you have there.

Weird. I guess for some reason the other PSU did the trick...I hate to tell him to scrap the PC when it still works with a different PSU...but it's not really an option to have the block hanging out the side of the PC. :/

Thanks SR-71, I suppose he might have it in him to order 1 more PSU. Before I order though I do have a question...do you think the screw mounts on the back will line up with the case? That is part of the reason I wanted to try with a same-model replacement...

the ATX form factor is a standard. All mounting holes are the same on all ATX size power supply's.
